LIBASCI, Alan

Alan Libasci was born June, 1938 in Cheyenne, Wyoming to Dr. Alfonso and Maude (Hazelton) Libasci. His father was stationed in the Army in the area, and both he and his mother moved to her father's house in New York after Dr. (Colonel) Libasci deployed overseas to serve in World War II. At the end of WWII, his father's next station was to St. Louis, MO as the commander of a depot, a seven story building on the present site of Busch Stadium. It was there that Alan developed a loyalty for the St. Louis Cardinals and he remained a lifelong fan. In his mid-teens, his father deployed to Germany where Alan attended and graduated Kaiserslautern High School, leaving Germany just before graduation ceremonies. His father's last station was at Fort Huachuca, AZ and it was at Fort Huachuca that Alan started work in the computer field as a member of the US Civil Service. He worked with a computer that filled an entire room and required actual re-wiring of boards in order to change mathematical operations. He retired from both the Arizona Air National Guard and the US Civil Service. Alan is survived by one son, Donald and one granddaughter. He was predeceased by his sons, Scott Alan and Michael Paul. His hobbies led him to many accomplishments. He holds the quarter mile record for Super Stock in the now-defunct American Hot Rod Association, owned a firearms store in Sierra Vista, AZ, and had his own motorcycle racing team (Libasci Racing) which raced at Daytona. He shot pistol for many years, competing in action, combat and target events across the U.S. He also conducted matches in his later years. He was struck down in August, 2010, while still a vibrant and active man, by a rare and aggressive T-cell lymphoma. He died September 19, 2010 in Tucson, AZ.
