ELY, Edward (Larry)


Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, AZ Sunday, September 19, 2010 Edward "Larry" Ely, 92, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010. Mr. Ely was born July 5, 1918, in Bucks County, Pa. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was discharged in 1946 and began his 60-plus years as a resident of Williams. He opened Signal Radio and Appliance in Williams and then started up Williams Flying Service. He flew scenic flights over the Grand Canyon for 25 years and served as airport manager. After selling his aviation service, he started up Mickey Mowse Flyin' Machines and worked as an aviation mechanic. He was also a flight instructor and a member of AOPA and the Antique Airplane Association. He was active in the Masonic Hall and also belonged to the American Legion. He is survived by his daughter, Carole, of the Verde Valley. Private services are being held. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.norvelowensmortuary.com.
