Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, Arizona Published Saturday, September 25, 2010 Sept. 6, 1934 – Sept. 15, 2010 Walter L. Pavel Jr., 76, passed away in Lake Havasu City Sept. 15. He was born on Sept. 6, 1934, in Chicago to Walter and Marie (Uher) Pavel Sr. Walt and his family moved to Mankato, Minn., in 1940 where he graduated from Mankato High School in 1952. He went on to serve his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps Reserve and the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged. He married his beloved wife, Carol Janda, on March 10, 1955. Walt managed and was part owner of the Rathskiller Bar in Minnesota and went on to work for the Street Department of Mankato for 19 years. Walt and Carol moved to Lake Havasu City in 2000, where he was a member of the VFW Post 950, as well as a member of the DAV and the American Legion. He will be deeply missed and always loved by his family and friends. Walt is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Carol Pavel of Lake Havasu City; sons, Walter “Bud” (Robin) Pavel III, John (Darlene) Pavel, Robert (Rose) Pavel and Jim Pavel; daughter, Mary (John) Slater as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, June Nordhausen; and brother, Robert Pavel. Memorial service with military honors presented by the VFW will be held at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 9 at the VFW in Lake Havasu City with Post Commander David Eaton officiating.
