CULLEN, James (Jim) Joseph, III

Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, AZ Tuesday, September 28, 2010 James "Jim" Joseph Cullen III, 70, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010. With a Pepsi in one hand and his wife's hand in the other, he was surrounded by those he loved and those who loved him. He was born Nov. 20, 1939, in Colorado Springs, Colo. He went around the world as a U.S. Marine and experienced countless adventures throughout his life before settling in Flagstaff to raise his family and to develop a successful business that is still family owned and run. He lived and breathed life to a standard only he could achieve, true to form of "Semper Fidelis." As he lived, he passed along the secrets of life to those he knew would be raising his grandchildren, his legacy, with the understanding that "money and power mean nothing and that good always triumphs over evil." As a savvy businessman with multiple projects across the United States and expanding beyond the borders, Mr. Cullen's major concern was to take care of his wife and family. This legacy will live on for many years. Although he received many awards during his lifetime, it was the prestigious "Legion of Honor Award" from the Chapel of the Four Chaplin's and "Marine of the Year" Memorial Award he cherished the most as well as his work with the Marine's Toys for Tots organization. Mr. Cullen was a spiritual man and loving brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and provider; he will be missed. Mr. Cullen is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Mary Ann; their four children, Jim, Kelly (Audrey), Tony (Michelle) and Kathleen (Earl); 10 siblings, Jerry, John, Kenneth, Enid, Mike, Pat, Chris, Mary Ann, Katie and Elizabeth; his loving mother, Francis, who he cherished the most; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Jim. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Chase Bank account No. 2955786955 that will be given to Mr. Cullen's favorite charities. Holy Rosary and Vigil service will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m., also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment with military honors will follow. Condolences can be sent to the Cullen family at www.norvelowensmortuary.com. Norvel Owens Mortuary is handling arrangements.
