The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ September 28, 2010 Billye Triber died in Scottsdale Sept. 22, 2010. She was born Sept. 29, 1928, in Anchorage, Alaska to Charles F. and Elsie Fay Shield. She was the little sister to Irma Fay. Billye grew up in Anchorage, but spent much time in the goldfields of Manley and Circle Hot Springs where her father was a very successful gold miner and later manager and owner of many businesses in Anchorage. On Aug. 10, 1947, she married the love of her life, James P. "John" Triber in Anchorage. Their only child, Gretchen C. was born prematurely Jan. 15, 1949, during a huge snowstorm in Anchorage. John was transferred to Fairbanks with the Alaska Railroad in 1954 and the family took up residence in half of a quonset hut. Many lifelong friends living under the same condition were made during their three years up there. Back to Anchorage they went and during that time, Billye worked for the United States Public Health Service and later owned Young Fashions, a girl's dress shop. John and Billye retired to Tempe in the winter months and Greer in the summer. John died in 2000 and Billye moved to her beloved Sunrise Brighton Gardens in Scottsdale shortly after. Billye is survived by her daughter Gretchen (Chuck) Collup of Greer; granddaughters and their husbands, Tamara and Larry Scheinman of Duluth, Ga. and Bethany and Mike Beecher of Marietta, Ga., as well as her sister, Fay Farmer of Tallahassee, Fla. and two nephews. Per her wishes, no services will be held. "We love you mama to the moon and stars!"
