The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ June 25, 2007 LaVonne Bouldin Cox died June 19, 2007, in Greenwood Village, Colo. She was born Margaret LaVonne Bouldin, Oct. 31, 1911, in Hollywood, Ala. She graduated from Montevallo College in Alabama with a degree in art education, then traveled to northern Arizona where she taught school in St. Johns and on the Navajo Reservation. She married Billy Fred Cox in 1937. They lived for several years in west Texas, ranching and raising their family. They returned to Arizona in the mid-1950's, living in the White Mountains until 2002. LaVonne taught school in McNary and Pinetop-Lakeside for many years. She was a charter member of the Pinetop Community Presbyterian Church and was active there as teacher and organist. Following retirement, she became more active with her art, becoming an accomplished watercolor artist. Following the death of her husband in 2002, she moved to Colorado to be closer to family. In 2003, and 2004, her watercolors were selected for show in the Colorado Alzheimer's Association's Memories in the Making Art Auction in Denver. She lived a long and full life and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughters, Dorrit Cox White of San Antonio, Texas, and Nina Cox Burford of Englewood, Colo., and three grandsons, Nathan Burford of Edgewater, Colo., Jake Burford of Littleton, Colo., and Monty White of Dallas, Texas. She is also survived by a nephew, Terry Bouldin of Mentone, Ala., and many nieces and nephews by marriage. She was preceded in death by her husband Billy. Arrangements are pending.
