Joan Augustine Short died peacefully in her home in Tucson April 18, 2007, after years of battling Parkinson's disease.
She was born Nov. 10, 1924, at St. Anne's hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, to James Donnelly Jr. and Beatrice Dennish Donnelly. She was raised in Cleveland and graduated from Shaker Heights High School in 1942. She married Clarence Joseph "Augie" Augustine in 1943 in Ocean View, Va. They shared 48 years of marriage as well as raised two sons, Kurt and Brian.
She and her family moved to Paradise Valley in 1968. She later moved to Sedona in 1978 and then to Tucson in 1990, where she met Harold Short and they were married in Hawaii in 1991. Joan had a passion for traveling and visiting many places across the world. She also enjoyed swimming, shopping, needlepoint and cooking. She was active in a bridge club, Welcome Wagon and Tucson Symphony Women's Association. She spent alot of time in the White Mountains visiting her son, Kurt, and spending time with her granddaughters.
Joan is survived by her two sons, Kurt Augustine of Lakeside and Brian Augustine of Tempe; two grandchildren Holly and Chelsea Augustine of Lakeside; her husband, Hal Short, and the many others whose lives she touched.
A private memorial service was held at St. Anne's Convent in Tucson.
