Mary Carley McCay, passed away at age 84. Known as “Carley” to her friends, she was born in Berkeley, Calif., to Robert Edward Crane and Jewel Elizabeth Roberts Crane.
She attended the University of California at Berkeley for a short time and then worked with an international world movement organization full time for 20 years. At the age of 20, she gave her life to God. This is where she met her husband, Bruce E. McCay, through the organization. Carley and Bruce were married in 1965 in Mariposa, Calif. After four years of marriage, they moved to Lake Havasu City in 1969. Carley liked to tell the story about running around town and a baby burro would follow her back to her home. There was an article in the newspaper around 1970-71, with a picture of Carley and Bruce McCay with the orphaned burro they called “Guiseppe.” Carley enjoyed telling the story about the burro and had started writing a story about the burro but never finished.
Carley and Bruce joined the Community Presbyterian Church in October 1970, where she was very active in many areas of the church. She loved helping people when needed whether at home, in the hospital or at church. She always had a smile on her face and went quietly about her business. Carley was also an artist and loved making greeting cards for her friends for all sorts of occasions. If you received a “Carley card,” you were one of the fortunate people in her life.
Carley leaves behind her loving husband, Bruce E. McCay, of 45 years of marriage; her niece, Julia Crane Capener; niece, Karen Crane Ball and her children Bradley Ball, Sara Carley Ball and Grayson Crane; nephew, Robert and Loretta Cone; sister-in-law from Norway, Ilene Anderson Crane; sister-in-law, Rosemary and Robert Crane; and many friends.
Her parents preceded her in death plus a brother, Tom Crane.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Community Presbyterian Church in her name, 3450 Chemehuevi Blvd., Lake Havasu City, AZ 86406.
The memorial service for Carley will be at 3 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Community Presbyterian Church on the corner of Saratoga Avenue and Chemehuevi Boulevard. There will be refreshments following the service.
