HAAG, Walter (Jayhawk) (Dutch) Herman


Evergreen Mortuary & Cemetery, Tucson, Arizona (July 21, 1923 ~ September 26th 2010) Walter (Jayhawk) (Dutch) Herman Haag was born on the family farm in Olpe, KS, the first of 14 children of Mike and Margaret Haag. Walter is survived by wife Louise (Fenzi), son Stan (Gwen) Haag, daughter Cyndi (Hal) Smith, grandson Andrew, step-grandson Eric and family, and great granddaughter Kayla Ann. He is also survived by sisters Norma Bluma, Maurine Hilding, Lola Kresin, Lavonne (Kiel) Hays: brothers Leroy, Glen (Georgia), Larry (Susan), many nieces, nephews and in-laws. Walter is predeceased by his parents, grandson Jeremy Haag, sisters Vera Hartman, Helen Hurtig, brothers Ivan, Earl, Floyd, Herb. Walt was an electrician (“high-liner”) in Arizona, New Mexico, and the Midwest. Walt served honorably in the Navy in WW II on sub-chasers in the Pacific. He was a life-long avid fisherman and hunter, loved a good game of cards, country western music and movies, and especially, the company of his large family and many friends. In his early years, he was a semi-pro baseball pitcher. Walt was an excellent storyteller and never at a loss for a good joke. He was well-liked by all for his integrity, hard work and humor. Walt will be extremely missed and loved by all who knew him. May he rest peacefully. A gathering of family and friends to share memories of Walt will be announced at a later date. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Olpe, Kansas. Burial at the St. Joseph Cemetery. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY
