Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, AZ Saturday, October 09, 2010 John C. Begay Sr., 68, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, in Flagstaff. He was surrounded by those he loved and those who loved him. Mr. Begay born May 14, 1942, in Bellemont, to the late Rena White Begay and Chischilly Begay. He loved watching wrestling, football and Suns basketball, painting, silversmith in his earlier days, as well as reading Louis L'amour western novels. However, singing and playing his guitar were his passion. He will be dearly missed by his family, relatives and those who had the great pleasure of knowing him. Mr. Begay is survived by his loving lifelong partner, Helen; their six children, Helena (Marvin) of Leupp, Christopher of Mesa, Verleendia (Terry) of Gilbert, Darrell (Theresa) of Queen Creek, Candelaria (Jesus Alberto) of Leupp and Fabian (Ladelveldena) of Mesa; 14 grandchildren; four siblings, loving sister Sarah Smiley, Richard Begay, Della Nez and Alice Dawahoya. He is preceded in death by his two children, John C. Begay Jr. and baby girl Begay; and brother Woody C. Begay Sr. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be Monday at noon at Norvel Owens Mortuary, 914 E. Route 66, in Flagstaff, and interment with military honors will conclude services at Citizens Cemetery. A reception to follow at the Leupp Chapter House.
