Charles "Chuck" Horvath died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at the Bob Stump V.A. Medical Center, Hospice Unit, in Prescott, Ariz. He was born Dec. 14, 1924, in Farmingdale, Long Island, N.Y., and has resided in Prescott since 1993.
Charles graduated with a B.A.E.E. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. Before moving to California in 1963, he was employed by General Electric Company in Burlington, Vt., and Morrison, Ill. Charles also worked for Grumman Aircraft in Bethpage, Long Island. He found his 25-plus years of work as a test engineer at Underwriters Laboratories in Santa Clara, Calif., to be extremely gratifying. He served in the Signal Corps attached to the Ninth Air Force during World War II and landed in Normandy with the troops on D+6.
Charles enjoyed woodworking, metal detecting and computer refurbishing. During his retirement, he worked with a non-profit group, Computer Literacy Resources, here in Prescott; once these used computers were cleaned up and updated, they were given to those who couldn't afford one.
Charles is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eleanor; son Kenneth (Gail); daughters Christine (Greg), Charlene (Tom) and Katherine (Jim); and seven grandchildren.
