AVENSON, Harvey Cornelius


Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Friday, August 29, 2008 Harvey Cornelius Avenson, age 91, a resident of Chesapeake, Va., passed away Aug. 2, 2008. Harvey was born Dec. 16, 1916, in Dorset Minn., son of the late Jacob C. and Anna (Larson) Avenson. He lived in Cohasset, Minn., from 1922 to 1972. He was a resident of Prescott, Ariz., for 36 years. In June 2007, he moved to Chesapeake, Va., to be closer to his son. Harvey was a World War II veteran serving as a construction engineer building airfields in the Aleutian Islands and at a submarine facility in Oregon while serving in the U.S. Navy Seabees and Merchant Marine. He was elected to serve two terms as Mayor, plus 13 years as Fire Chief while raising his family in Cohasset, Minn. When living in Prescott, Harvey was the owner of the Mile-Hi Motel before he and his wife retired. Harvey was a long-time member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Prescott. He was preceded in death by his wife Katherine Stewart Avenson and daughter Rita Avenson Ward. He is survived by his wife Colleen Komar Avenson of Spring Hill, Fla. Cherishing his memory are his brother James Avenson of Cohasset; his children, Jerome Avenson of Chesapeake, Va., Dianne Osberg of Rapid City, S.D., Kathleen Avenson of Tuolumne Calif., Janette Nelson of Punta Gorda, Fla.; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at the Wildwood Cemetery at Cohasset, Minnesota.
