Warner Suhr Johannessen, 89, of Holyoke, Colo., passed away Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, in Holyoke. Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, at Tennant Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010, at Tennant Funeral Home with burial to follow at the Fleming cemetery in Fleming.
Warner was born on March 17, 1921, in Kong, Denmark, to Anders Viggo and Dagmar Gudrun (Larsen) Johannessen. He attended school through the 10th grade and then went to an electrical trade school for two years. He married Doretta Marie Kues on Aug. 11, 1946, in Denver. They were married for 64 years.
Warner moved from Denmark to Wisconsin then to Colorado. He then served in World War II in the U.S. Army, Armored Division. After serving, he began working for Western Electric in Colorado. He was then transferred to Phoenix. He retired in Prescott in 1986 and resided there until 2009. He and Doretta returned to Colorado in 2009 and resided in Holyoke.
He worked for Western Electric and AT&T in Electrical Communications. He was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Prescott and a member of the Telephone Pioneers and the Oddfellows. He enjoyed hiking in the desert and photography.
He is survived by his wife Doretta. He was preceded in death by his parents Anders and Dagmar; and brothers, Johannes and Douglas.
