William "Bill" C. Glessing, 90, formerly of Syracuse, N.Y. and Prescott, Ariz. and most recently a resident of St. Johnsville's Rehab and Nursing Home in St. Johnsville, N.Y. passed away peacefully on Sept. 10, 2010 at the VA Hospital in Albany, N.Y.
Bill was born on Feb. 20, 1920, son of the late Charles and Elizabeth Glessing of Syracuse. He graduated from St. Vincent de Paul School. In recent years, he was a member of the Church of Christ of Latter Day Saints. During World War II Bill served as a Battalion Clerk defending the Panama Canal. After his discharge, he became a fireman and engineer on the New York Central Railroad. Additionally he did house renovations and expansions.
Bill was an avid fisherman, card player, reader, writer, award winning poetry author, discussion leader and researcher of ancient manuscripts and medical diseases. Having a large, close family and dear friends was the largest blessing in his life.
His loving family includes daughter Elizabeth Tucker of Palatine Bridge, N.Y.; grandson William "Willie" (Donna) Tucker of Raleigh, N.C.; granddaughter Lisa (Roger) Siegfried of Jonesborough, Tenn.; sister Betty Murphy of Prescott, Ariz.; sister Joan (Mike) Desimone of Vero Beach, Fla.; brother Charles "Chick" (Debbie) Glessing of Jensen Beach, Fla.; sister Mary Grace (Bob) Dessormeau of Porter Corner, N.Y.; courtesy sister Barbara Rosecrans of Liverpool, N.Y.; niece and courtesy daughter Maureen (Fred) Curlee of Tempe, Ariz.; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins; and dear friends.
In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his first wife Helen; second wife Martha; step-mom Mary Rosecrans; sister Helen Robischon; brother Jack Glessing; courtesy brother Ron Rosecrans; and an infant daughter Elizabeth.
Family expresses deepest appreciation to the outstanding and caring staff of St. Johnsville's Rehab and Nursing Home in New York; Maureen and Fred Curlee for devoted and unselfish love and support; and Chick Glessing for assistance in providing Bill with a beautiful setting for his final year.
Bill donated his body for research to Albany Medical Center. His request was for family and friends to remember him fondly and pray for his soul.
