Richard W. "Bill" Sampson, age 85, passed away on Sept. 3, 2010, at the Bob Stump Veterans Administration Medical Center.
Bill was born Oct. 5, 1924, in Glendale, Calif. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1946.
He then went to work for North American Rockwell for 36 years, retiring in 1982.
Bill loved cars, country music and sports, especially bowling. He was a member of the local Senior Bowling League for many years.
He was predeceased by both parents, brothers Raymond and Garland and sister Eileen.
Survivors include his wife Sherry; son William of Tustin, Calif.; daughters Donna of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and Sharon (David) of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his four-legged best friend, J.R. ("the little guy").
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at the VA Chapel at the Veterans Administration Medical Center complex.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the local Alzheimer's Association or the local Humane Society.
