April Greenberger Reiner
April Reiner, born May 17, 1933, in New York, N.Y., left this world for "greener pastures" on Sept. 18, 2010. A resident of Chino Valley, Ariz., for 10 years, she was a real estate agent and member of the Chino Valley Mounted Sheriff's Posse.
April and her husband of 55 years, Larry (Lawrence) Reiner, traveled the Southwest and Old Mexico prospecting and mining. April earned her degree in geology from New York University but really learned her trade as a prospector and miner in Nevada at the Crescent Queen Mine working with George and Sally Graham and the Columbine Mine with Pauline Scott between Lipton, Calif., and Searchlight, Nev. She loved spending time in the Superstition Mountains and selling real estate in the Tolleson area.
Among her many accomplishments, April rode with the Wild Women of the West as "Annie Oakley" for about 20 years as well as with The Arizona Desert Riders, The Shady Ladies and The Maricopa Mounted Search and Rescue Unit. She also competed in the Man Against Horse race for several years and was in training for this year's event at the age of 77.
A celebration of life will be at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, and Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, at the Five-M Ranch, 764 W. Road 1 South in Chino Valley. Please RSVP to 928-636-1245 for the second date.
