Mary Jo Shelton, 82, of Pinetop died May 29, 2007, at her home.
Mrs. Shelton, a homemaker, was born Nov. 6, 1924 in Azle, Texas. Mary Jo grew up and attended school in Ft. Worth, Texas. Following high school she met William J. Shelton and they were married Sept. 25, 1943, at the Sagamore Hill Baptist Church. They made their home in Ft. Worth, Texas. They moved to Irving in 1954.
She was a polio survivor, having been stricken with the disease during the outbreak of 1949 and endured many other hardships throughout her life and maintained her sense of humor. She and her husband moved to Pinetop in 1978 and enjoyed their retirement there. She was active in many organizations during her life, including a Bluebird and Campfire Girl Leader and a lifetime member of the Irving PTA.
She is survived by her husband, William J. Shelton of Pinetop; children Vicki (Bob) Carper, Jerri (David) Muska both of San Antonio,Texas, and William J. "Bill" (Pamela) Shelton, Jr. of Midland,Texas; two grandchildren Elizabeth Wren and Alexis Holloway; and two great-grandchildren, Ripley and Iyan Wren. She was an inspiration to her grandchildren, she loved to play the piano, organ and loved to sew.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, June 2, at the Cotten-Bratten Funeral Home and Chapel. Interment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery, Weatherford, Texas.
