TYSON, Ethel Elizabeth

(Maiden Name: Buckley)

Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Tuesday, August 26, 2008 Ethel Elizabeth Buckley Tyson passed on Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, in the family home after a very brief illness, surrounded by dedicated faithful friends. Ethel was born Oct. 19, 1919, in Alliance, Neb., to Maury and Marguerite Buckley. The Buckley family moved to Prescott during the Depression and lived with her grandmother in the family home on S. Cortez. Ethel graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree of Bachelor of Arts in Education and taught in the Prescott area until she met and married Robert Tyson. They lived on the Tyson ranch until he was drafted into the Army during W WII. Mr. Tyson passed on in the Army hospital in Fort Knox, Ky. Ethel then stayed with his family for a year traveling abroad and entertaining in Washington, D.C., with his Aunt Perle Mesta. Ethel returned to Prescott to teach for 28 years, teaching drama and English in the high school. There are no remaining family members though she did keep in touch with the Tyson family. Ethel thought of her students as her “kids,” attending class reunions, feeling proud and happy when she was recognized and greeted by them wherever she went. A celebration of Ethel’s life will be at a later date. The arrangements were entrusted to the Hampton Funeral Home. You can go on line at hamptonfuneralhome. com and sign Ethel’s guestbook and leave a message for the family. Information provided by survivors.
