HARKINS, George A.


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ April 26, 2007 George A. Harkins, 88, of St. Johns was called to be with our Lord April 18, 2007. He was born in Cripple Creek Colorado July 2, 1918. George served his country with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He and his family moved to Arizona in 1946, where he worked several welding jobs before he bought a service station in Yuma. George sold his business and began his career as a boilermaker/welder and retired in 1980. George enjoyed the outdoors, camping, traveling, and spending time with his family. He is survived by his beloved wife Lorene; daughters Betty Patrick and Georgeann Phipps; four granddaughters; and eight great-grandchildren. His family and friends all loved and will miss him so much. A viewing was held Friday, April 20, at Burnham Mortuary in St. Johns. Graveside services were held April 24, at the National Memorial Cemetery, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, at 1 p.m. where George will be interred with full honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to RTA Hospice, 1789 W. Commerce Drive Lakeside AZ 85929. Burnham Mortuary of St. Johns, handled arrangements.
