JOHNS, Richard (Dick) Springer


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ April 26, 2007 Richard Springer Johns died April 23, 2007, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Rick was born May 15, 1923, in San Bernardino, Calif., the second child of Fred Lee and Ivah Blanche Linn Johns. Rick joined the U.S. Air Force directly after his high school graduation. He served his country as an Air Force Pilot in the Korean War with many decorations. He retired from the Air Force as a major after 20 years. Rick served his church whenever called upon including as bishop in two different wards and as a stake president in the Orem Park Stake for 12 years. He will be missed very much as he was so personable and loved by friends, his ward and especially his family. He leaves behind his lovely wife, Betty Nevenner Holbrook Johns of Utah. Rick is also survived by his four children, Kathy (Scott) Barney of Washington and Jackie Davidson, Rick (Gayle) Johns Jr. and Randy (Peggy) Johns, all of Utah; 19 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren; his younger brother, Bernard Johns of Maine and an older sister, Virginia Sandberg of California. Rick was married to Norma Gibbons of Arizona for 53 years. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Meadows Ward, 12459 Dansie Way (1860 W.). Friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Broomhead Funeral Home 12600 S. 2200 W. Riverton, Utah, and Saturday one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be held Tuesday, May 1, at 11 a.m. in the St. Johns Cemetery in St. Johns.
