The Verde Independent, Cottonwood, AZ Tuesday, October 12, 2010 Mia (Marianne) Thompson 1933 - 2010 Mia (Marianne) Thompson (nee Mandelik) well-known Camp Verde artist and beloved wife of the late Billy K. Thompson, passed away peacefully on Oct. 9. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on June 21, 1933, Mia lived in the Cleveland area until 1983 when she and her late husband moved to Sedona, Arizona, where they opened a framing shop and became active in local art circles. Following the death of her husband Mia moved briefly to Cottonwood and then to Camp Verde. Mia is survived by her brother, James R. (Ann) Mandelik, her sister, Kay (Gerald) Kalal, a niece, three nephews, five great-nephews and a great-niece. Mia will be greatly missed by her many friends in the Camp Verde art community. A memorial service is to be held at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 781 S. Cliffs Parkway, Camp Verde, on Thursday. Oct. 14 at 11 a.m. It is suggested that donations in lieu of flowers be made in Mia’s memory to Northern Arizona Hospice, 269 South Candy Lane, Cottonwood, AZ 86326.
