NEUMAN,
Meyer
Evergreen Mortuary & Cemetery,
Tucson, Arizona ~ July 27th 2010
Meyer Neuman died July 26, 2010. Born on October 5, 1914 in Volovo, Czechoslovakia, was raised by his beloved mother, Roize Neuman; his father, Yosef Dov, died a soldier in WWI before Meyer was born.
Having to be raised by a widowed mother, Meyer quit school to help provide for the family and began working as porter on a bus at the age of twelve. Thus began his love of automobiles. He later became a chauffer for a doctor.
After marrying his first wife he owned a fleet of taxis in Czechoslovakia. Meyer lost his first wife and three children in the Holocaust. He was a survivor in the largest sense of the word.
After the war he was taken to Sweden where he met Susan Lox the love of his life. When Susan first saw Meyer she believed that he would never survive as he weighed only 69 pounds. But survive he did. Meyer and Susan became engaged in Sweden in 1948 after which Susan left for the US and Meyer promised to follow. He did follow two years later and Meyer and Susan were married on October 29, 1950 in Cleveland, Ohio where Meyer opened and owned his first gas station. They moved to Tucson in 1956 where Meyer bought Meyer’s garage which he ran until 1977.
Meyer was a very positive person who always saw the glass half full. Meyer was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Susan. He is survived by his children Rosie, Phillip, Murray and Jerry, son-in-law, Paul Kahn; daughters-in-law Vicki & Barb & adopted daughter Linda Roy. Meyer’s seven grand children Yoneet, Sheeri, Michael, Gilon, Daniel, Jake and Jade and his step grandson Michael (Gina) and adopted granddaughter Sari will miss their Zeidie very much.
The family greatly appreciates the devoted care given to Meyer by his devoted caregivers Pat, Eileen and Julie.
Chapel Service will be on Tuesday, July 27, at 10:00 a.m. at EVERGREEN MORTUARY, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile, with Rabbi Eisen and Cantor Lichterman officiating.
Interment is to follow at the Anshei Israel Section of Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Meyer’s honor to Congregation Anshei Israel.
