BURRIS, Vallie Ferne

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ March 9, 2007 Vallie Ferne Burris, 90, died Monday, March 5, 2007, in Gallup, N.M. She was born Sept. 6, 1916, in Drake, N.D., to Jackson and Viola Zimmerman McGee. Burris grew up and attended school in both Pennsylvania and Washington. Following school in 1938 she married Glenn "Mike" Burris, and they moved to Phoenix. They remained in the Phoenix area until Mike retired. They then moved to Navajo. In their retirement Vallie and Mike enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing. Burris is survived by her husband, Mike Burris of Navajo; daughters Lois Kabert of Black Hawk, Colo., Glenda Lackey of Maricopa, and Georgette Franke of Navajo; son Glenn Burris, Jr. of Ephriam, Utah; sister Bonnie Brown of Protection, Kansas; 19 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 24 great great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 10, at Owens Mortuary Chapel in Holbrook. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening at the mortuary. Interment will be in the McCarroll Cemetery in Navajo. Owens Mortuary of Holbrook handled the arrangements.
