Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Friday, August 29, 2008 Ethel Ruth Harris, 93, born Nov. 4, 1914, in Simsbury, Conn., passed away Aug. 23, 2008, at Prescott Valley Samaritan Center in Prescott Valley. Visitation is from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at Heritage Memory Mortuary. Services will follow at 5 p.m. A private cremation will take place at Mountain View Crematory in Prescott with inurnment at Heritage Memorial Park in Dewey. Heritage Memory Mortuary assisted the family with final arrangements. -------------------------------------------- The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Sunday, August 31, 2008 Ethel Ruth Harris, 93, of Prescott Valley, entered heaven Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at the Good Samaritan nursing home in Prescott Valley. She was born Nov. 4, 1914, in Salisburn, Conn., to William and Mabel (Westphal) Firtion. As a young woman Ethel was involved in sports, excelling in women’s baseball, basketball, hockey, and especially tennis; winning numerous titles including first place in the 1938 United States Lawn Tennis Tournament. She was also an accomplished equestrian belonging to Bigelow Riding Club. She was inducted into the Enfield Athletic Hall of Fame for basketball and baseball in 2005. Some of her other hobbies were any kind of hand crafts, cooking and baking. Ethel married her loving husband, Horace, on Feb. 14, 1942. They enjoyed the New England beaches during the summers, living in a beach house. Mrs. Harris worked at the Somersville Mills as a secretary most of her working life, retiring in 1978. She moved to Prescott Valley in 1986 from Gardena, Calif. She loved watching baseball (Arizona Diamondbacks), basketball (Phoenix Suns), and football (NY Giants). Survivors include her son William of East Port, Maine; daughter Jeanette Graveline of Prescott Valley; grandson Louis Graveline of Phoenix; granddaughter Kari Kalander of Prescott Valley; and great-granddaughter Eloise Graveline of Phoenix. She will be missed by all who knew her! Visitaiton will be 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at Heritage Memory Mortuary. Funeral service will follow at 5 p.m. A private cremation will take place at Mountain View Crematory in Prescott and inurnment will take place at a later date at Heritage Memorial Park.
