GRIEGO, Johnny Chavez

Arizona Silver Belt, Globe, AZ Wednesday, October 20, 2010 Johnny Chavez Griego, age 78, of Phoenix, Ariz. passed away on Oct. 11, 2010. He was born on Sept. 8, 1932 to parents, Juan Griego and Pilar Chavez. Johnny was married to Maria T. Rubio Griego. He worked as a Labor Union Business Manager of Local Union #383 for 48 years until he retired in 1997. Originally from Flagstaff, Ariz., Johnny worked throughout Arizona, including in the Miami-Globe area. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church and the Labor Union Local #383, which he participated in for 61 years. He also served as a police officer in Flagstaff for 18 years and was the owner of his own trucking company. Johnny was a martial arts instructor as well. He is survived by his wife, Maria T. Rubio Griego, his children, Linda (John) Aguierre of Phoenix, Mary Griego of Phoenix, Norma (Sam) Garcia of Avondale, and Joann Griego of Phoenix; step-daughters, Gena Carrillo of Phoenix and Sonia (Steven) Mani of Mesa; siblings, Erlinda Martinez and Herman Griego; 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Pilar Chavez; brothers, Seferin and Roger Griego; step-son, Manuel Flores Rubio, Jr.; grandson, Angelo Deleon, and his canine companion Negro. Services for Johnny Chavez Griego will be held on Oct. 22, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Fr. Jay. Funeral arrangements for Johnny Chavez Griego have been entrusted to Miles Mortuary of Globe.
