Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, Arizona January 4, 1990 A 36-year-old Phoenix man was killed Wednesday near Congress, the victim of an altercation between friends which resulted in a tragic incident. Capt. Jack Bender of the Yavapai County Sheriff's department said Ronald Earl Scott was pronounce dead at Wickenburg Community Hospital following the shooting, which took place shortly after 6 p.m. at an area near the junction of State Highways 93 and 71, southwest of Congress. Bender said preliminary investigation indicated that Scott, Ruben Edward Simmons, 42, and his son, Jon Simmons, 15, both also of Phoenix, were target practicing and hunting in the area when Scott and Jon Simmons became involved in an argument. Investigating officers said Ruben Simmons tried to intervene in the dispute with a.22 caliber pistol, the two adults struggles for possession of the pistol, deputies said, with several shots being discharged. Investigators said that Jon Simmons then obtained a .45 caliber pistol from one of the vehicles at the scene, "which discharged, striking Ronald Scoot in the head," Bender told The Sun. Bender said the incident was still under investigation at press time, and that no criminal charges or arrests have as yet been made.
