Leon Frank Poe, age 90, passed away at his home in Globe on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010. He was born in Alamogordo, N.M. on Dec. 24, 1919. His parents were George Leo and Carrie Bell Poe. He had a brother, Edgar, and two sisters, Margaret and Jane.
Leon served on a Navy Destroyer during World War II from 1942–1945. He had worked at various occupations, logger, dozer operator, cowboy, and the mining industry for most of his working years. He worked for Inspiration Copper in Miami, Phelps Dodge in Bisbee. He worked from 1949–1982 for Magma Copper in Superior, Ariz., most of that time as a supervisor.
Leon enjoyed hunting, baseball and fishing. He had been a minor league player for the St. Louis Cardinals when he was 17.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sisters as well as his daughter, Marsha. Leon is survived by his sons, Gerald, Claude (Colleen), Russell and step–daughter Donna; 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services are to be on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Superior, Ariz. Superior Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
