CLAYTON, Arthur Joseph


Lamont Mortuary of Globe, Globe, AZ ~ 10/27/2010 Arthur Joseph Clayton (1918 - 2010) Arthur Joseph Clayton, age 92, born May 2, 1918 in Nampa, ID to Hallie and Arthur Clayton, passed away Oct. 23, 2010 at Heritage Care Center in Globe, AZ. He graduated from high school in Brunswick, MO in 1936, then majored in journalism at the University of Missouri graduating in 1940. He became editor of the Brunswicker, a family run newspaper, married Dorothy Hardin and moved to Prescott, AZ. In 1944 he joined the Army and served in Co. B 409th Infantry Regiment 103rd Division. He was awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star among other honors. In April of 1948, he married Lois Schnabel. He had a long career with Trans World Airlines, beginning in Kansas City, MO as editor of the company newspaper, and ending three decades later as the Administrative Assistant to the VP of the Western Region based in Los Angeles, CA. After retirement, the couple spent several years managing the tourist facilities at Bryce Canyon and Death Valley Scotty's castle. Around 1980 they moved to Big Pine, CA. It was there that Lois passed away in August of 2000. He moved to Globe, AZ in 2005. Arthur is survived by his brothers Kenneth Clayton of Spirit Lake, IA and Robert Clayton of Brunswick, MO, his daughter Lynne Cooley of Globe, AZ, his sons Bruce Clayton of Mariposa, CA and Richard Clayton of La Mesa, NM, his nine grandchildren and his four great grandchildren. Graveside services and interment will be held Nov. 9 at 1:30 pm at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, CA.
