Hardy James Jackson Jr, 82, died at his residence in St. Johns Oct. 21, 2010. He was born April 18, 1928 in Ajo, the son of Hardy and Lillie Mae Jackson.
Hardy was a boilermaker for Phelps Dodge where he retired in 1977. He was also a blacksmith. He was probably best known for his involvement in the dry pack cannery in St. Johns and his activity in the senior center there. He loved his grandkids and great-grandkids and enjoyed being around them.
Hardy is survived by wife, Dorothy Kennedy Jackson; son Richard (Elanna) Jackson, of Chino Valley; daughter Ruth (David) Nielsen of St. Johns; brothers Curtis Jackson of Kearny, James Jackson of Pahrump, Nev., and Howard Jackson of St. Johns; ninegrandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Ruth Jackson, and sisters Ione Jackson and Inez Shackelford.
Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 29, from 6-8 p.m. at Burnham Mortuary in St. Johns. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at the Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of St. Johns. A Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at the St. Johns Westside Cemetery.
