JOHNSON, Clarence D. (Johnny)


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ December 30, 2008 Clarence D. "Johnny" Johnson died Dec. 17, 2008, in Show Low. Johnny was born May 23, 1927, in McPhee, Colo., to Clarence D. Johnson and Crisanta Velasquez-Johnson. On April 20, 1946, Johnny enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged Nov. 27, 1950, as a sergeant. Johnny was an avid golfer and could be found on the golf courses of Show Low and the Imperial Valley, Calif. He could also be found fishing the streams of the White Mountains. He insisted on conducting business by "Service Honoring the Golden Rule" in Calexico, Calif., for over 50 years. He was a member of the Elks Club No. 1382 in Calexico, Calif., for 47 years and is a past exalted ruler, elected for two terms. Johnny had the unique ability to make friends wherever he went. He is loved by many and will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. Johnny is survived by his loving wife, Ann (they married Dec. 5, 1972). He is also survived by his loving children, Donna Gaffaney, Diana (Derek) Wilson, Dorothy (Gene) Hall, Becky (Danny) Rosales, Sidney (Maria) Turner, Toni (Dennis) Noble, Rusty (Tonette) Johnson and Morgan (Gabby) Johnson; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews; sister June Cardwell; brothers Perry (Toni), Larry (Lina), Pete (Lorraine) and Melvin (Virginia) Johnson; and many friends that he was very fond of. Johnny was preceded in death by his mother and father; stepmother Tomasina; son Clarence D. "Bucko" Johnson; and son-in-law Tim Lappin. A memorial service will be planned at a later date when the weather is better to give all who wish an opportunity to attend. Owens Livingston Mortuary of Show Low handled the arrangements.
