GIVEN, Janice Marie

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ January 1, 2009 Janice Marie Given, 57, died Dec. 24, 2008, at University Medical Center in Tucson. She was born Oct. 25, 1951, in Springerville to Achiel and Caroline Waelbroeck. Janice was an educator with over 30 years of experience ranging from classroom teaching to administration. She was appointed superintendent of Thatcher Schools in 2000. She held a bachelor's degree, two master's degrees and a doctorate degree in the field of education. Janice was highly regarded in the education community and deeply cherished by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, John Given; daughter and son-in-law, Casandra and Nick Albert; granddaughter Madeleine; mother Caroline Trammell; sister and brother-in-law, Ginger and Gayle Brown; sister and brother-in-law, Gracie and Lanny Sherrill; and many other loving family and friends. Janice was preceded in death by her daughter, Melissa, in 2007. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at Thatcher High School with burial to follow in Springerville.
