Ann Elizabeth Wise Hale, 47, of San Antonio, N.M. died Nov. 11, 2008, at the Vista Hospice at Lovelace Hospital in Albuquerque due to complications of leukemia. 'Pay it forward.'
A 1978 graduate of Alchesay High School in Whiteriver and later an All-American in basketball at Mesa Community College, Ms. Hale is survived by her son, Samuel, and her husband, Tom. Born April 15, 1961, in Greenville, Mich., she was a daughter of Don Wise of Pinetop and Jacqualyn VanderLey Wise (deceased). Her stepmother was Liz Cooley Wise of Vernon. She moved to the White Mountains in July of 1962.
Her siblings include Christine Wise Janezcko of Lousiville, Colo., Diana Wise Ross of Salt Lake City, Utah, Stephen Wise of Pinetop, Sarah Wise Kennedy of Havre d' Grace, Md., and Richard Wise of Liliburn, Ga.
Ms. Hale was diagnosed with Chromic Mylogenous Leukemia in 1999. She underwent a stem cell transplant in November of that year and beat back numerous health issues related to the transplant since then. Given a second chance at life, Ann gave her time and energy unstintingly to numerous children throughout the state both on a personal level and through her professional efforts.
She was particularly active with the national organization of the Boys and Girls Club and acted as the Chief Executive Officer of the Boys and Girls Club of Socorro County, N.M., and recently in a statewide role as the Director of the Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs of New Mexico.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Macey Center at New Mexico Tech University in Socorro, N.M.
