The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Thursday, November 04, 2010 Violetta R. Chemas On Oct. 28, 2010, the Rogers and Chemas families lost their matriarch, Violetta (Vi) R. Chemas, after an extended illness. As per her wishes, she died at home with her family. She was preceded in death by her brothers, William Sauer and Ernest Streittmatter, as well as her sons, Thomas W. Rogers and William G. (Andrea) Rogers, who we know she has now joined. Vi is survived by her brother Robert Streittmatter of Oelwein, Iowa; her daughter Trudy A. Rogers of Phoenix; and her sons, Joseph A. Rogers of Tucson and Frank J.D. (Debra) Chemas of Chino Valley. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Andrea Rogers of Tucson; and her ex-daughter-in-law, Linda Rogers of Glendale; as well as 11 grandchildren, Brian Albright, Regina, Suzanne, William and Jennifer Rogers, and Pam (Todd) Haley, Lisa (Tom) Stanley, Andrea (Trish), Erik Rogers, Sara and Abbi Chemas. In addition, Vi is survived by eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Vi was born March 7, 1919, on a farm in Cono Center, Iowa, to Frederick Clyde and Viola Gertrude Sauer. She graduated from Walker High School in Iowa and moved to Arizona for her health in 1944. She has lived in the same home in Prescott, and raised five children, since 1947. Vi worked at the Veterans Administration Center for 30 years and retired as the secretary to the Chief of Medical Services in 1982. Over the years she pursued a variety of interests including square-dancing, gardening and canning, cooking and baking, which her children and grandchildren enjoyed to the max, and painting and needlework, for which she had a real talent. In her declining years, her grandchildren, the Diamondbacks and Sees candy were her major interests. An online guestbook is available at hamptonfuneralhome.com. A celebration of life will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, at Hampton Funeral Home, 240 South Cortez in Prescott.
