ESCALANTE, Marcos Lopez


Copper Basin News Hayden, Az. ~ 5 Nov. 2010 Marcos Lopez Escalante, 54, passed away in Tucson Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010. He was born in Florence Sept. 10, 1956. He was a career U.S. Navy man with the Sea Bees in construction engineering, from 1973 until 1993. He also had worked with the Developmentally Disabled Division in Tucson helping people of all ages in their own homes who were actually wards of the State. He was a very exacting personality who once had worked with the postal service and in landscaping. Carpentry was his hobby and many swing sets were constructed by him. Survivors include his wife, Elena Cruz Escalante of Tucson; step-daughters, Sonia (Chris) Neal and Daniella Cruz, both of Tucson; five brothers, Felipe (Concha) of Hayden, Davis (Jolene) of Pittsburg, PA, Richard (Vera) of Tucson, John (Rosa) of Dudleyville, Robert (Susie) of Kearny; sisters, Patricia (Gabriel) Garcia and Isabel (Roy) Verdugo, both of Tucson; and four grandchildren with one on the way. Ofelia Escalante, his step-mother, is deceased and so are his brother, Tomas, and his wife Gracie. Services were conducted Saturday, Oct. 30, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hayden. After the funeral Mass at 12:30 p.m., a Naval detachment and an Air Force assembly joined in the graveside services at Mt. View Cemetery. Griffith Mortuary assisted the family.
