Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, AZ Wednesday, November 10, 2010 Melvin "Red" Charles Halliday, 89, of Flagstaff, died Friday, Oct. 29, 2010. Mr. Halliday was born Feb. 17, 1921, in Sioux City, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army for six years with the "Bushmaster" during World War II. He will be remembered as a generous man, never without a smile on his face, who had a willingness to help anyone. He spent the majority of his adult life doing what he loved -- operating heavy equipment and being a reserve officer with the Flagstaff Police Department and the Coconino County Sheriff's Office. He is survived by his son, Robert; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mary; and his daughter, Dawn Kolpin. A memorial service will be Friday, Nov. 19, at 11 a.m. at Norvel Owens Mortuary, 914 E. Route 66, in Flagstaff.
