Dorothy J. Ferris, 85, of Vernon died peacefully with her family at Bannon Springs Ranch Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008. She was born March 12, 1923, in Sioux Falls, S.D.
She graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls. She worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C., from 1941 to 1945, then moved to Phoenix in 1952, where she worked for the U.S. Postal Service from 1956 to 1983, retiring as a supervisor.
Dorothy moved full-time to Vernon in 1998. She donated her time to St. Vincent De Paul in Phoenix and Pinetop.
She is survived by sons Dan, David and Doug (Elizabeth); grandchildren Brent (Tara), Puna, Hale, Kristen (Bill), Erin (Steve), Amanda and Katie; and great-grandchildren Trent, Brynt, Luke and Conlan.
She was preceded in death by Delbert, her husband of 57 years.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 2, at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church in Pinetop. Interment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix.
