Stewart 'Stu' Laverne Schwab, 86, of Casa Grande and formerly of Guthrie Center, Iowa died peacefully at RTA Hospice Dec. 1, 2008, with his loving wife and family by his side. He was born Jan. 18, 1922, in Guthrie County, Iowa to Henry and Grace (Wright) Schwab.
He grew up working on the family farm and graduated from Bayard High School in 1940. On Jan. 4, 1942, he married Agnes Madsen in Guthrie Center. Shortly after they were married he was called to duty and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during World War II. Stu was postmaster in Guthrie Center for 30 years and retired in 1980. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Guthrie Center and later joined the ZaGaZig Shrine. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Guthrie Center.
Stu is survived by his wife of 66 years, Agnes; daughters, Connie (Jerry) Bergstrand of Show Low and Janel (Ken) Miller of Prescott Valley; grandchildren, Beth (Charlie) Marsh, Mark (Juli) Glade, Anneka Bergstrand, and Lauren (Kyle) Fecteau; great-grandchildren, Devin, Hunter, and Tanner Marsh, Samantha Haley, and Katie Glade; sister Ida Stine and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Arlene Wahlert and Marjorie Hansen and brother Arnold Schwab.
Memorial services will be held at a later date in Guthrie Center, Iowa.
Arrangements are being handled by Black's Mortuary in Show Low.
