Jeanette Clarine Frost Gillespie, 88, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, in Gilbert following a lengthy illness. Jean, as she was known, was born Sept. 11, 1920, in Snowflake to the late James Harrison and Editha (Smith) Frost.
On June 1, 1937, Jean married the love of her life, Verl Gillespie, in Lakeside. Ten years later on June 6, 1947, their marriage was solemnized in the Mesa Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He preceded her in death in 1997.
Jean was an active member of the church throughout her long life and served in various capacities. She was proud of the fact that she was a native of her beloved White Mountains and actually made Lakeside her home for many, many years. She worked 35 plus years for the Lakeside Election Precinct and was well-liked by those that voted there.
A devoted homemaker to her family, this loving wife, mother and grandmother found her life's greatest joys within the walls of her own home. She always enjoyed serving the needs of those that lived there and that loved her the most, her family.
Jean is survived by eight of her nine children: Clairece Gillespie of White Mountain Lake, Jim (Geneva) Gillespie of Lakeside, David (Dixie) Gillespie of Shumway, Allen (Sherry) Gillespie of Camp Verde, Royce (Debbie) Gillespie of Kanab, Utah, Evette (Louis) Pinkerton of Mesa, Crushawn (Kenny) Keith of Lakeside and Nylene (Kevin) Rainey of Gilbert; and 27 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Mikel Rae Gillespie; grandsons Wayland Gillespie and Braiden Ford Rainey; five brothers, Jess Frost, Albert "Monk" Frost, Aut Frost, Mack Frost and Tom Frost; and sister Coral Webb.
A visitation will be held 6-8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 12, at Owens Livingston Mortuary, Show Low Chapel, 320 N. 9th St., in Show Low. Funeral will begin at noon Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Pinetop Lakeside Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1520 Church Lane, in Lakeside, where she was a member of the Rainbow Lake Ward. An additional visitation will take place from 10:15-11:45 a.m., just prior to funeral services.
Interment will follow at the Lakeside Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband of 60 years. Her family suggests contributions be made to Hospice of Arizona, 2222 W. Northern Ave., No. A-100, Phoenix, AZ 85021.
