Zachary River Campbell died Sept. 28, 2008. He was born in Salmon, Idaho, March 29, 1979.
When he was one month old, he and his mother moved to Ouray, Colo., where his grandparents lived. He spent his first two years in Ouray, where his mother taught school. In 1981 they moved to Cedaredge, Colo. The following year they moved to Tucson, where his mother completed her graduate work. He attended preschool in Salida, Colo., kindergarten in both Salida and Ouray and first grade in Canon City, Colo.
River and his mother settled near Pinetop-Lakeside. He attended third grade in Show Low and fourth through 12 grade in Pinetop. He graduated from high school in 1998 and continued working in the area for two years.
In 2000, he moved back to Ouray with his grandmother, and in 2001, he moved to Tucson, where he spent the next seven years. In 2007, he returned home to Ouray with his family. He worked full-time at Duckett's Market and hosted part-time at the Bon Ton Restaurant.
Throughout his life, River spent much time at his grandparents' house, outside of Ouray. He enjoyed camping, hiking, Jeeping and fishing with his family. Growing up, he also spent much of his time at his great grandmother's casa in Cholla Bay, Mexico. He also enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, the northwestern states, Canada, the Yukon and Alaska.
His favorite pastime was snowboarding, which he enjoyed doing both in Arizona and Colorado. He was a dedicated Bronco fan, even through their bad years. He was a devoted friend. River passed on to his heavenly home, to join his beloved grandfather, his friend Donnie Dodge and other loved ones who passed on before him. He was treasured by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his father, Tracy Steiger of McCall, Idaho, and grandmother Jackie Campbell and mother Kathy Campbell, both of Ouray.
