NEUBURGER,
Fay Thelma
(Maiden Name: Friedman)
The White Mountain Independent,
Show Low, Arizona ~ October 23, 2008
Fay Thelma Neuburger, 82, of Show Low died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at her home. She was born April 4, 1926, in Perth Amboy, N.J., the daughter of Morris and Jeanette (Stein) Friedman.
She was raised and attended school in New Jersey. When Fay was in high school, she and her friends would go to the local soda fountain shop, where she would often see Jerry Lewis walk in, wearing a long white trench coat, and join his friends for a soda. Because of these memories, Fay would always watch the Jerry Lewis Telethon.
When Fay was a young woman, she went on vacation to Florida with her parents, where she met and fell in love with Irving Herzbach. They married March 16, 1947, in the Bronx. They had their only child, Karen, on Oct. 30, 1950. In 1959, they moved from Yonkers, N.Y., to Massapequa, Long Island. Fay was widowed when Irving died of cancer in 1965.
Three years later, she met Roy Neuburger, and they married a few years later. After Roy retired they bought a travel trailer and traveled all over the country for three years. In 1975, they moved to Tucson where they met many new friends and became involved in many activities, including world travel.
She took up oil painting and became a very talented artist. She also loved swimming and formed a synchronized swimming club called the Mermaids. Once a year they put on a program with costumes, props, music and someone to video these happy events. Her husband Roy passed away in 1989.
Fay came to Show Low seven years ago. She loved her new home where she displayed all her beautiful paintings and the mementos from her world travels. She was of the Jewish faith.
Fay always had a kind word to say, a sparkle in her eyes when she smiled, a cheery hello and a warm hug for all her family and friends, whom she truly loved.
Survivors include daughter Karen (Tom) Zienka of Show Low and two grandchildren, Elisabeth (Mike) Ortega of Lakeside and Tommy (Jennifer) Zienka of Show Low.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 20, at Lakeside Cemetery.
