KELLY, Cecil (Cec)


Cecil (Cec) Kelly, 75, of Phoenix, Arizona, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, December 28, 2003. He was born to Emmett G. and Marcella Bevins Kelly on December 21, 1928 in Garrison, Iowa. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics & PE in 1951 from Upper Iowa University. While attending Upper Iowa, he participated in football, basketball and track. He was an All American in football and track and was inducted into the University's Sport Hall of Fame. He was a 38-year resident of Taylor Lake Village and an active member of Seabrook and Clear Lake United Methodist Churches. Cec spent a total of twelve years in the military (seven years in the Iowa National Guard and five years in the USA Air Force). His career as an Aerospace Scientist from 1957 to 1994 began with General Electric as am ICBM Guidance System Design Engineer and included work on the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, Apollo/Soyus, and Shuttle Space Programs. After moving to Phoenix, Cec continued his involvement in church activities, high school dive coach volunteer, active advocate of Pulmonary Rehabilitation and attending his grandkids events, especially sports. He is proceeded in death by his wife, Sharon Mammen Kelly; his mother, Marcella Bevins Kelly; his father, Emmett G. Kelly; a sister, Gail Ellen Kirby; a brother, Clement Virgil Kelly. He is survived by daughter, Tamara Galloway and her husband, Bill Galloway and their children, Clayton, Kendell and Casey of Phoenix, AZ; a son, Danny Kelly and his wife, Pamela and their children, Ryan, Michael, Megan and Courtney of Plano, TX; a son, Christopher Kelly and wife, Beverly and their children, Erin and Matthew of Plano, TX; sisters Dorothy Ann Silken, Santa Maria, CA; Delores Miller, Ellensburg, WA; Patricia Betts, Cancun, Mexico; brothers Wilfred, Murrietta, CA.; Dale, Santa Maria, CA.; Francis, Akron, OH.; and 14 nephews and 7 nieces. Cecil will be interred beside his wife at Forest Park East Cemetery, following services in Houston, January 3, 2004. A Memorial Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Phoenix, (5510 N. Central Avenue) January 10, 2004. Reception to follow. Published in the Arizona Republic on 1/7/2004.
