Russell B. Seitz, 78, of Show Low and Tucson died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, in Tucson. He was born Feb. 27, 1930, in Arthur, Ill., the son of Edward and Mabel (Hoel) Seitz. He was raised and attended school there, graduating from Arthur High School in 1948.
He then entered the U.S. Army, serving for a year and serving in the reserve for seven years. He was married to Joyce Douglas March 24, 1951, at the Arthur Methodist Church. They moved to Phoenix in 1951, where he drove a truck for Davies Meat Company and then worked for Hormel Meat Company. He then went to work for Morrell Meat Company for 32 years and was area manager in Arizona when he retired in 1985. He had moved to Tucson in 1955, and came to Show Low following his retirement, where he drove a NAPA auto parts truck for a time.
He was very active in the Lions Club, receiving the highest award of that organization, the Melvin Jones Membership Award. He was also a member of the American Legion. He was a member of the White Mountain United Methodist Church. He loved to golf and was a coin collector. He was very much a people person, loving everyone and they loved him in return.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce, of the home; three sons, Tom Seitz of San Diego, Calif., Ed Seitz of Show Low and John Seitz of Tucson; three grandchildren, Rachel Seitz of Tucson, Russell Lee Seitz of Show Low and Jason Seitz of California; a niece, Joann Seitz of Texas; a nephew, Bobby Dietz of Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larry and five brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at Black's Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at White Mountain United Methodist Church in Show Low with viewing from 1-2 p.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Show Low Lions Club.
