KECK, Ted F. (Dr.)


Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, AZ Tuesday, November 16, 2010 Dr. Ted F. Keck, 91, of Georgetown, Texas, formerly of Flagstaff, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010. He was born Aug. 4, 1919, in Washburn, N.D., to Fred F. Keck and Alvina Schacher, the second of eight children. He grew up in Washburn, N.D. Dr. Keck served five years during World War II in Army Intelligence and as commander of a tank destroyer. He received five Bronze Stars and one Silver Star. After the war, he earned degrees in math and physical education at Minot State University in North Dakota, and later a doctorate in administration and physical education from the University of Oregon. He taught 14 years at Minot State University and went on to become athletic director and chairman of the PE department at Northern Arizona University for seven years. He then served 19 years as chairman of health, PE and recreation at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. Dr. Keck is survived by his wife, Lola Keck of Georgetown; children Shawneen Keck of Reno, Nev., Kathleen (Ardell) Haugen of Minot, N.D., and Shannon (Sylvia) Keck of Montgomery, Texas; and one grandson. A service will be in Washburn, N.D., at a later date.
