Sophia Corso passed away on Nov. 9, 2010, in Prescott, Ariz. She was born on May 27, 1918, in Amsterdam, N.Y. She is the daughter of Michael and Josephine Kozlowski.
Sophia was a kind and compassionate person who was full of spunk! She co-owned Corso's Men's Clothing and Dry Cleaning, along with a laundromat and car wash in St. Johnsville, N.Y.
She met her husband, Dario, in the church choir and married in 1934. Sophia was an active member of the St. Johnsville Business Girls, St. Patrick's Catholic Church and many other organizations. Hobbies were ceramics, knitting, sewing and crafts. Her retirement in Florida was enjoyable and included swimming, dancing and taking college courses. Her favorite pastime was dancing the Polka! Sophia later moved to Arizona, residing at Granite Gate and was best known as "Mama Mia."
Sophia is survived by Carol Bollinger of Prescott, Ariz.; sister Betty Copper of Chittenango, N.Y.; and two nieces and two nephews.
A service for Sophia will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010, at the Unity Church, 145 S. Arizona Ave., Prescott, Ariz. The family suggests that donations be made to the Yavapai County Humane Society or Hospice Family Care in Sophia's name.
