HARTZELL, William Harold (Bill)


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ November 10, 2008 William Harold "Bill" Hartzell, 77, of Lakeside died unexpectedly Saturday, Oct.25, 2008, at Tucson Medical Center. Bill was born July 21, 1931, in Philipsburg, Mont., to Harold C. and Myrtle Baker Hartzell. Both his parents and his only brother, Bob, preceded him in death. Bill spent most of his life in Colorado attending schools in Denver. He graduated from Greeley High School. He then worked as a tool and die machinist and retired in 1991 from Sundstrand Aviation in Westminister, Colo. He and his first wife raised two daughters. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed singing and performing Gilbert and Sullivan operettas with the Empire Lyric Players in Denver for over 20 years. In 1977, he married Carol Hardy, also a member of the cast of ELPS and they enjoyed singing together in various choral and ensemble groups. They loved travel, the theater and the company of friends. In 2000, the couple moved from Denver to Lakeside to be near Bill's girls. The couple spent several winters in Green Valley, becoming full-time White Mountain residents in 2007. Bill joined the High Country Barbershop Chorus and spent his time maintaining his property and relaxing on the front porch. Bill is survived by his wife, Carol; daughters Linda (Bob) Colburn of Chandler and Susan (Glenn) Kacsh of Queen Creek; stepson Jim Hardy of Burbank, Calif.; stepdaughter Jann Hardy of Aurora, Colo.; three grandchildren, Bryan Dervage, Michael Hutchison and Mindy Hutchinson; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. There will be no funeral services, but friends and neighbors are invited to celebrate Bill's life Saturday, Nov. 22, from 1-4 p.m. at the family home in Lakeside and share remembrances of a wonderful man. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
