Eva Lewis Smith died peacefully Sept. 21, 2008, at her home in Holbrook. She was born Sept. 9, 1920, in Battiest Okla. She was the oldest daughter of Monroe and Dosha Jenkins.
In 1942, Eva, along with her husband Ralph, moved to Holbrook where she spent most of her life. They raised all five of their children there, and she truly enjoyed and loved Holbrook. She was employed in the hospitality business and worked at The Green Lantern, Motoraurant, Plainsman, Kolab and the Down Towner.
She was involved in the JC Janes when the first swimming pool was built in Holbrook in the '50s. She loved her bridge club members. Her hobbies included sewing, yodeling, playing the spoons and fishing. Anyone knowing Eva would say she was one of a kind.
Eva is survived by three daughters, Velma Perkins, Carrol Downing and Sharlia Gordon; son Charles Lewis; 22 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren, as well as a multitude of friends.
She was preceded in death by son Ralph A. Lewis, her parents, sister Wanda Robinson, brothers Troy Jenkins and MT Jenkins and grandsons Ricky Lewis and Stephen Kade Perkins.
A visitation was held Thursday, Sept. 25, at the Owens Livingston Mortuary Holbrook Chapel. Funeral services in memory of Eva will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Holbrook Stake Center with a visitation one hour prior to the services.
Interment will be at the Reed Hatch Memorial Cemetery.
