Harry I. Beckett Jr., 81, died at his home in Lake Havasu City on Friday, Feb. 22, 2008.
He was born March 1, 1926 in Columbus, Ohio, to Evelyn Turner and Harry I. Beckett.
Harry was devoted to his loving wife Dorotha Beckett for 62 years. Harry and Dorotha were married in Columbus, Ohio, on June 28, 1945. They spent their life together enjoying family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He lived in Lake Havasu for 15 years and previously lived in Lancaster, Calif., for 40 years.
He is survived by his wife, Dorotha Beckett; son, William H. Beckett; daughter in law, Susan D. Beckett; brother, Harold Beckett; grandchildren, Merritt Beckett, Addie Beckett, Christopher Beckett and Martin Beckett; great-granddaughter Lillianna Rose Cardenas; and many close friends.
Harry joined the military after high school and was proud to serve in the US Army Air Corps during World War II. He earned a degree in Television/Electronic Engineering and later made a career of flight test instrumentation and design. He worked 45-years for General Electric, Boeing and Flight Systems and loved aerospace engineering because he got to fly jet airplanes. He invested in everything from windmills to ostrich farms and liked to travel, fix things and take pictures. He was always involved in the community and belonged to the Elks, the Masons, and the Elks Yacht Club. Friends and family say he was the world’s best storyteller. They will remember him dancing, singing and telling stories. Most people dream of things they want to do, but Harry actually did the things he dreamed of doing.
Services will be at the Elks Lodge in Lake Havasu City on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Harry’s name to the Living World Family Church at 1890 West Acoma Blvd. in Lake Havasu or to the charity of your choice.
