In loving memory of Patrick Henry Sr., 86, lifelong resident of Cibecue, entered eternal rest Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, at Flagstaff Medical Center. Patrick was born Oct. 12, 1921, at White Springs, Upper Cibecue.
The son of the late Charles Sr. and Helena Henry, Patrick attended Cibecue Day School, Fort Apache Boarding School and Santa Fe New Mexico Catholic School in 1941-1942.
After returning home he was drafted into the U.S. Army in July 1942, due to World War II. He fought in the European Theater from 1942 through December 1945. When he came home he did two more years as a reserve in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He met his lifelong friend and wife, Jennie Cabot, and they married April 9, 1946. He worked in the mines, was a cowboy for the Grasshopper-Oak Creek-Cibecue Livestock Association and worked with the tribal herd at I. D. Ranch. He started working for the tribal police department in 1966 and was sent to Roswell, N.M., in 1969 where he graduated from the police academy Oct. 3, 1969. He worked for the tribal police from 1966 to 1982.
He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Jennie C. Henry; sons Russell (Patricia) Henry Sr., Lorin D. Henry and Jacob (Ora) Henry; daughters Jennifer M. (Anthony) Hoffman, Eleanor (Arno) Banashley and Louella K. (Elvis) Lupe; sisters Josephine Gooday and Helen Childs; sisters-in-law Marie Henry and Ruby Henry; 36 grandchildren, 63 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by three infant sons and son Patrick Henry Jr.; brothers Robert Henry, Moody Henry, Raymond Henry, Charles Henry Jr. and Austin Henry; and sister Alice Henry.
His body will be brought back to his residence at 203 N. Cromwell Road in Cibecue for a two-night wake Saturday, Oct. 4, at 10 a.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 6, at 10 a.m. at the Cottonwood Gym in Cibecue with Pastor Reno Johnson officiating. He will be laid to rest by his late brother Moody Henry in the Upper Cibecue Creek family cornfield.
