Elmer E. "Woody" Hunter, 83, of Pinetop died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, at RTA Hospice in Lakeside. He was born Aug. 30, 1925, at San Jose, Calif., the son of Charles and Ada (Ward) Hunter.
He was raised and attended school in San Jose. He entered the U.S. Army in 1944 and served in the European Theater of operations during WWII. He was discharge from the Army in 1946 with the rank of sergeant. He worked at Reynolds Aluminum in Phoenix for 30 years, retiring in 1982.
He married Dora Timothy on March 1, 1980, in Pinetop. Following retirement from Reynolds, the couple made Pinetop their full-time home. He then operated a delivery service on the Mountain for 10 years. He was a faithful member of the Pinetop Baptist Church and a devoted and loving father and husband.
Survivors include wife Dora of Pinetop; daughter Sharlene Hunter of Olean, Miss.; stepson David Happell of Sandpoint, Idaho; two stepdaughters, Carol Johnson of Avondale and Sarah Mason of Pinetop; two stepsons, Eugene Koersehner of Phoenix and Jimmy Koersehner of Homestead, Fla.; brother Arthur Hunter of Calif.; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, two sisters and brothers.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Pinetop Baptist Church. Committal will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the Lakeside Cemetery.
