GROAT, Gerald L., (M.D.)


Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, Arizona Published Thursday, February 7, 2008 Gerald L. Groat M.D., 74, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, in Lake Havasu City. He was born Aug. 12, 1933 in Detroit, Mich., to Frank L. and Florence J. (Klockow) Groat. Gerald moved to Lake Havasu City 28 years ago from Sandusky, Mich. He dedicated his life to helping others through his work as a physician. During his career, Dr. Groat worked tirelessly to raise the quality of health care in his community. He served the state of Arizona on various medical committees and worked for many years on the front lines of medicine in the emergency room. Dr. Groat shared his knowledge as a professor of medicine and he worked for many years as a family physician, ushering 997 babies into the world. His contributions to his community are eclipsed only by the devotion and love he had for his family. Dr. Groat is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughter, Cynthia; son, Gordon; and his granddaughters, Nancy and Kathryn. A memorial service will be held Lakeview Community Church on Saturday at 3 p.m. Words of comfort and inspiration will be expressed by Pastor Dale Ray.
